THE FECUNDITY AND SEX RATIO OF Labeo boga (Hamilton) (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae) OF RAJSHAHI, BANGLADESH

Abstract


Labeo boga is an endangered fish species in north-west region of Bangladesh. In the present study, fecundity was estimated for 120 species from different fish markets of Rajshahi City, Bangladesh. The fecundity of Labeo boga was found to be highest 81648±721.358 and lowest 23484±226.423 for the total length 290 mm and 227 mm respectively having the total weight of 450g and 101.42g accordingly. The sex ratio of 550 specimens was obtained as 1:2.274 for males and females respectively. This study has shown that the male and female distribution in the natural populations is significantly different.
