A CONTRASTIVE ANALYSIS OF STANDARD NIGERIAN ENGLISH AND BRITISH ENGLISH

Abstract


The target of this paper is to give a linguistic juxtaposition in terms of contrastive analysis to the so called "Standard Nigerian English" and British English. The paper tries to see if, with the functional roles the English Language in Nigeria is subjected to, which have "nativized", "acculturised" and "indigenized"lish. the  (Adegbija, 2004:20) the language in Nigeria, we can still point at "Standard Nigerian English"! It further goes to give a scholastic view to its British counterpart in terms of functionality and peculiarity.
